George grew up in Oxford and Durham and was in the workshop from an early age. Woodwork developed into a keen hobby, and at 17 he had work exhibited at the International Woodworking and Turning Exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham . He also sold pieces at craft fairs in Durham.

After completing a physics degree, George decided that woodwork was where his passion really lay, and Johnson Furniture was born.

George now makes furniture on an individual commission basis, he has delivered work within the Uk from Edinburgh to Somerset and even recently took a large commission out to Madrid.
